A cup or two of wu yi tea a day…

I have just been asked if I have tried Wu yi tea, well like most I love a good cup of tea as a pick me up, several times a day in fact, and I’m not adverse to drinking the odd cup of herbal tea, but this is new to me.

However did you know that there are four types of real tea excluding what we normally call herbal teas? These are black tea, green tea, white tea and oolong tea.

Oolong is the semi-oxidized counterpart of green tea and it has been used in conventional Chinese medicine for centuries. There are many varieties of oolong Chinese tea, but the most famous are Wu yi teas, named after the Wuyi Mountains where it is harvested.

If you want to know how to lose weight, then you may be interested to learn that scientific studies have shown that Wu yi tea plays a role in the oxidation of fat and so is beneficial to help you lose pounds.

Wu yi green tea (Jin Mei) is a special tea that is not easily found even in the tea markets in China. It feels smooth in the mouth and the aroma and taste is sweet and flora. Two other famous green teas are Qu Hao and Xue Ya.

The leaves of Wu Yi Wu Long or Wuyi oolong, used for this slimming tea resemble iron shards and they are hand-rolled and pan-fired when their aroma peaks in order to stop oxidation. The leaves are then charcoal fired and the rich flavor makes it one of China’s top ten teas.

The Chinese have long believed that there is a link between drinking tea and weight loss, but our health authorities in the West have always shown skepticism. A five-year study into oolong tea and fat loss discovered that the polyphenol compound in Wu yi tea could help people with obesity fight the battle of the bulge.
